Holiday Special - 2011 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Anniversary Set

Since then it has become the most popular silver coin series in the entire world. Now the Silver Eagle is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

The design for the obverse of this iconic coin is based on Adolph A. Weinman’s stunning image of a flag draped “Walking Liberty” originally featured on the 1916 half dollar. The revival of this beloved US coin design has helped the Silver Eagle become one of the most sought-after silver coins in the world.
The coin’s reverse was designed by the US Mint’s Chief Engraver John Mercanti and features a heraldic eagle behind a shield. Based on the design of the Great Seal of the United States, Mercanti’s eagle grasps an olive branch in one talon and a bundle of arrows in the other. In the eagle’s beak is a banner with the inscription “E Pluribus Unum,” and above it are thirteen stars representing the original thirteen states.
This special 25th Anniversary Set includes the following 2011 dated coins:

- · American Silver Eagle Proof Coin – mint mark: “W” (West Point)
- · American Silver Eagle Reverse Proof Coin – mint mark: “P” (Philadelphia)
- · American Silver Eagle Bullion Coin – no mint mark
- · American Silver Eagle Uncirculated Coin – mint mark: “S” (San Francisco)
Both the Uncirculated Silver Eagle from the San Francisco Mint and the Reverse Proof Silver Eagle from the Philadelphia Mint were struck exclusively for the 25th Anniversary Set. With a maximum mintage of 100,000 sets, these two coins have one of the lowest mintage levels of any Silver Eagle in the series.
